Caleb Norwood 4 Congress Speech Story
“Radical change” is coming to California’s 27th District with congressional candidate Caleb Norwood speaking to students at the COC political science club Thursday afternoon.
Norwood is a democratic candidate preparing for his primary election set on June 2, 2026.
At the club, he highlighted several critical issues going on in the community, such as housing, healthcare, education, transportation, and access to the internet.
Norwood conveyed to the students that his campaign aims to bring about “radical change” and enhance public funding for vital services.
Calvin Garingan, a member of the political science club, commented on how Norwood was notable for his ability to engage with students.
“As a Republican, I found him to be more engaging compared to George Whitesides when he was a guest speaker at the club last year, especially because of his connection with the students over video games, as it’s one of his personal interests," he said.
One of the central points of Norwood's speech was the ongoing housing emergency and homelessness.
Norwood recounted many experiences traveling throughout the country at his past job as a telecommunications data center server auditor at Level-3 Communications, pointing out the prevalent issue of homelessness and stressing the urgency for better housing solutions.
He also linked living conditions to health, noting how elements like air quality can have an impact on ailments such as asthma.
Beyond the topics of housing and health, Norwood discussed the influence of technology in contemporary life.
He acknowledged social media as a very beneficial resource but raised concerns about how corporations might influence artificial intelligence (also known as AI), underlining the distinction between viewing technology as a tool versus a commercial product.
His campaign platform emphasizes a range of proposals, including the enlargement of public housing, universal healthcare, tuition-free public higher education, enhanced infrastructure, and comprehensive internet access across the whole country.
Many of the students who attended the political science club that day were given the opportunity to hear from the candidate firsthand before his upcoming election.
The primary election for California’s 27th Congressional District is set to be held in June 2026.
